First, we just purchased a Whitby 42 and are rigging her, the standing rigging is new but odd, there are two shrouds that lead aft, I cannot find chain plates at the stern? Should I look inside the storage cubbies or put new ones in at the angle on the plans? Anyone know the turnbuckle size for that rigging? I have three 3/8 pin 15 turnbuckles that came with the boat?

I am adding a traveller (short) to the stern cabin top to work the mizzen. Our stern has enough gear as we have a monitor windvane.

There is no traveller on the main and we have a dodger, I doubt I could get blocks far enough aft on the boom anyway. So my question is, if I put the main sheet on the end of the boom, I saw you need 80 feet of line? As per one of your discussions? On our P35 that had about the same boom length we used 11mm line on the main sheet.

Ideas? I am new to the Whitneys and have the original set of plans and the main show rear sheeted.

Thank you all in advance for any advice you can offer!

You should have running backstays. We have pad-eyes on the aft quarter for the runners.

Here is a picture of the rear of our enclosure and the end of boom mainsheet system. The amount of line will depend on how much purchase your block system uses. 80 feet seems like enough for a 4 part tackle. Some attach the mainsheet on the mizzen mast to help clear an enclosure. With our setup wide boom angles require easing of the aft corners of the enclose. Enjoy customizing your new vessel.

Thank you both! Our boat has so much new stuff, it is odd how main rigging is missing or gone? I am fixing the mizzen back stays this weekend, I found Pad eyes and what looks like blocks for adjustment, I bought new turnbuckles and if need be will bed new chain plates.

The photo really helped, and now it makes sense, the boom is rigged in the photo like our P35 Pearson, so I ordered a SCHAEFER 7 SERIES 2250# SWL SNAP SHACKLES MAIN SHEET, VANG 4:1 80' NEW 1/2"LINE and I have the pad eyes and a odd 3 point harness made out of rigging, take a look and see it this is connected to the main sheet? Thank you.

We are so happy with the sailboat, we have a overwhelming amount of work to do before the trek around Florida the home north to Deltaville. Cleaning the bottom has been a diving nightmare, THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT HELP!

Jim, welcome aboard and congrats on the new boat!

The three point harness in your picture is for the mizzen sheet.
