It appears in the photo that your main all-chain rode is out of it's normal place on the starboard side of the forepeak locker. BUT we notice that you have a large black PVC pipe running through that space, much like Mike's set-up that feeds chain into the large space under the v-berth. In the interest of clarity, do you have a photo of your main anchor chain in it's stored position? Is that chain stored on the starboard side of the forepeak or under the v-berth? Thanks!

If you are referring to our post (B44), the PVC hawse pipe is suspended on the right side of the divider beneath the Gypsy feed from the windlass. The hawse pipe is about 4’ long and drops the chain over a roller (that we installed) and below A shelf to the bottom of the boat beneath the v-berth and forward of a bulkhead. Our hawse does not move so we could not do the flaking system others have used.

elschwieb- Thanks! that's very helpful. We did not realize that we could use the space under the V-berth as a chain locker.
Without a chain spreader, have you had trouble with the chain binding up?
thanks

Yes, that is why we added the roller (to facilitate chain fall) and why, as noted in initial post, I sweep the chain while retrieving it to reduce the pile under the hawse.

Our 12.8 came with a Danforth on the port side with 80 feet chain and 320 feet nylon. The nylon is coiled under the v-berth, and the chain falls on the port side of the chain locker behind the 2 doors. Used this only once during a hurricane. The primary 55lb Delta is on 200 feet chain on the starboard side. All of this chain fits on the starboard side in a pile without using a pvc pipe or roller. Doesnt seem to make the bow too heavy.
Finally, the 70 lb Luke storm anchor is stowed, taken apart, in the aft lazarette starboard locker. The heavy nylon rode for it is coiled under the v-berth, under the coiled Danforth rode. A short piece of chain is also available for it. Used this only once riding out a hurricane in a small creek near Newport, RI.

What size and type of chain is on your primary anchor? Does your windlass feed the chain into the center of the starboard side of the forepeak?
thanks
