Stewart Warner Fuel Pump was created by Kevin Taylor
Hi,
The PO of Real Life (Brewer 12.
said that he removed a failed Stewart Warner 12 vdc fuel pump that was used as a transfer pump and backup fuel pump. He didn't replace it. The fuel lines and wiring are still there and I would like to add a transfer pump back in. This would be to polish fuel through the dual racors and also act as a backup in case the lift pump fails.
Has anyone replaced their SW? Are there any suggestions on what makes/models would be straightforward replacements?
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
Go to a NAPA ( or other truck / auto ) parts store and select a 12v continuous duty diesel fuel pump. Several years ago they sold for about $40.00.
If a reasonable fuel transfer / polishing system was installed, you should have a fuel filter present. It's good to have the pump downstream so that fuel contaminants are filtered before the fuel gets to the pump.
It's amazing that your PO discontinued use of the transfer / polishing system. I consider it to be a very important system on our boat.
Maybe do some tracing to be sure the pickup and return lines and fittings are good and hold vacuum and pressure.

Thanks Greg. I'll take a look at NAPA. Fortunately the fuel pump connection that is plumbed in is downstream of the filters.
