Salon Chair Pictures

Does anyone have pictures of the original salon chairs? Ours is a '75 Whitby 42 and it came came with two very large, very ugly and very worn padded chairs. Really too big for the area. Also interested in means of securing them while underway.

Ours (1982) came with two white leather chairs. They were in good condition, but I didn't want their bulk. Plus I wanted to use the space for an Engel fridge (which I love). We were able to find a home for them on another boat. They dogged down with a rod into a reinforced hole in the floor.

The ones on our boat are the same shape but bigger, too big and too ugly. I assumed they were brought aboard through the companion way and tried to remove one that way. Could not get it out of the boat. Ended up cutting it in half to get it out. As soon as we find replacements the other one will meet the same fate. There are the slots in the floor which I assume are for the tie downs but no sign of the tie downs on the boat.

We originally had a settee which we removed and replaced with chairs which we find more comfortable. These are our third set of chairs and we are like this style, with mesh seats and back. We took the wheels off and replaced with wood blocks with felt on the bottom and didn’t install the arms. Underway they secure to the bulkhead.

Thanks for the pictures. That's kind of what I had in mind. Thought about a settee but that would block access to some of the storage.

A previous owner of JdV changed our salon from chairs to settee. I sometimes think I would rather have the ergonomics of nice chairs there instead but I do love all the storage the settee allows. And it was constructed so as not to block access to the existing cupboards. One thing I don't like about the settee they built is it is a bit too narrow for sleeping.









Apologies for the delayed response. We just this week got the boat put back together after being in project mode all winter.
