I am looking for ideas how a to create a cockpit table that allows people to seat around to eat which is preferable permanently mounted on our whibty 42 see current table

We have a Brewer 44, which has a very different pedestal from your Whitby (and some of the early Brewers). I would be glad to send you photos of what I made, but it will have to be adapted to your pedestal. Briefly, ours has two drop leaves on the sides (different dimensions for the different distance to the seats) fastened on piano hinges to a top that is split (across the grab bars on the pedestal) and that one "weaves" onto the pedestal to fit over the compass ad gearshift base (after removing the shift handle). It is secured by wooden "straps" underneath.
