Excuse the crude drawing! But if you look at the Red block in the shoe as you have modified it, I see the red block as the stop for the centerboard raising arm to rest against in the down position. Creating a positive stop that doesnt require the stop line and its maintenance issues. This also stops the board from pivoting all the way to the vertical position in the event that the stop line breaks

I just tied a knot in the hoist line at back of rope clutch which will stop it at correct place
