Hi Bruce,
thank you for your answer. My issue in fact is to beach the boat for enjoying the mooring in ports or coves once the tide is gone out sea bed permitting. The shall draft of the Brewer 12.8 (1.37m) and the shape of her keel should make it possible with good beaching legs.

Thierry,

Great idea. Do send along some pictures if you get it set up. I have not beached mine, but given the flat bottom of the keel, it seems well configured to rest well on the bottom. How do the stands work? From the deck, or do you have to place them in the water?

Hi Bruce,
I hope that you won't be disappointed but I'm unfortunatly not yet a Brewer 12.8 owner. I'm willing to buy a Brewer 12.8 or a Whitby42 and I'm trying to gather the experiment of owners about the beaching possibilities using stands of the two boats before to do it because it is an important aspect of my way of sailing. I've red recently that only 9 Brewer 12.8 had been built in the Fort Meyer's yard and my chance to purchase one of them is tiny. Unfortunatly I missed the sale of one who was for sale in St Croix (US Virgin Island) few months ago.

I can't help with the drying legs question, other than to say, having just witnessed the effects of boats tipped over while on the hard by a hurricane, I would not attempt this myself.

But to your other point - there were 39 Brewer 12.8 boats built in the Fort Myers yard. They started with an original order of 9 modified Whitby 42s from a group of racers in New York and then continued producing the 12.8 for several years after that.

Hi guys,

I have one of the original 9.

Curious what effect of laying on side has on a 12.8. Are there any reports available?

I'd also be curious how stands work.

Hi Scott,
it is necessary to make sure before beaching that the sea bed in the area is free of rocks, wrecks etc and rather flat. In that case the risk of tipping over is close to zero. The mooring has also to be free of swell to prevent a roughfly touch down by beaching.
Do you know how many Brewer 12.8 as been built with the center board design among the 39 units?
