I had a leak in the aft cabin hanging locker and while I had my head in the locker looking for it I looked up and found my second HIN number stamped into the headliner inside. It was very close to the door frame. I had no idea it was there or that I even had the second one. Our boat is a 12.8.

I also have the plate at the companionway. In addition when I removed the old davits I found the same numbers on the top starboard side of the transom. 427679 was distinctly imprinted in the jell coat under a support for the davits.

One thing that might help in the search for a second HIN - the US Coast Guard did not require a second ("secret") HIN until sometime (Aug.1?) in 1984. Prior to that, they required only one HIN, located where we typically see it on the upper starboard corner of the transom.

I believe Canada adopted the same requirements as the USCG.
