Hi,

We've been lurking around this forum for the past 5 months or so and thought it time to introduce ourselves. Back in the beginning of May, 2012 we purchase Fantasy Island, a 1985 Brewer 12.8, from Frank and Joanne in Fort Lauderdale. Fantasy Island was a nicely cared for boat and we feel very fortunate to have come across it in our boat search.

Over the past few months we've been going through a minor refit and getting it ready to move aboard with our family of four, Kevin, Jennifer, Madeline (12), and Zach (10).

We still have some items left on the refit but should be done in the next 2-3 weeks. Then, we plan to do some sea trials in the second half of October and 1st half of November here in the Lauderdale and Miami areas. If we don't find any major issues, we'll be heading to the Bahamas and then who knows were after that.

Significant changes we've made to date or issues we've addressed:
    Renamed vessel to
Real Life
Replaced shaft, cutlass bearing, stuffing box (dripless)
Replaced all chainplates with 3/8"
Replaced fore and backstay backing plates
Re-insulated engine room
Repaired damaged keel bottom
Ground out cracks and repainted transom
Repainted lockers and bilges
Replaced engine room passageway and aft cabin soles with new teak and holly
Replaced various compromise wood shelving
Replaced galley formica counter, sink, faucets
Re-bed all stanchions and cleats
Replace halyards
Replace all aft and v-berth cushions
New bow roller platform
Replaced 2 10# propane tanks

Currently in progress or planned before sea trials:
Replace and redesign bimini and full enclosure canvas (reusing frame)
Repair sails and replace UV canvas covers (all three sails are roller furled)
    Replace all Bomar hatches
Replace all Beckson gaskets and portlight lens
Build custom deck step to hang off teak toe rail
    Build custom screened plexiglass hatchboards
Re-bed any remaining deck hardware (windlass, clamshell, etc)
Replace all lifelines with 1x19 uncovered wire
    Install mast steps
    Re-certify Viking 6-man liferaft
    Tune up Johnson 9.9 outboard
Replace all navigation lights and spreader lights with LEDs
Replace all interior lights with Sensibulbs
Add dome lights in each of the 3 cabins
Add GPS Chartplotter and network into RADAR and Autohelm
    Refinish all exterior teak
    Watermaker membrane inspected/replaced
    Replace sheets
Install "bottom siders" or other closed cell foam cockpit cushions
    Replace anchor chains and rodes
    Replace danforth and delta anchor
Install stern anchor, chain and rode

Well, this is the list for now. We'll see what gets added to it as we move aboard and start taking it out for anchoring and other sea trials.

Thanks to all of you for the great information that has been posted on this site.

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the group. We have just finished the 2012 Rendezvous today, at the West River Sailing Club in Galesville, MD. I anticipate that we will be in the same place/ same timeframe next year for the 2013 Rendezvous if you want to factor that into your planning. We all learn a lot at the Rendezvous, such a wealth of experience in the room, and a wealth of information to be had by looking at the other boats that come and saying, "What's that - my boat is different from that," or "why did you do that upgrade that way?" The Rendezvous program is mostly member supported and member focused - we'd love to hear what you have been doing, and what you've been doing to the boat. GAC

He who will not risk cannot win.
