Our hydraulic steering system was replaced about 20 years ago. Coming back from a recent cruise, the helm pump could no longer generate enough pressure to turn the boat manually at cruising speed. I could steer by autopilot or, manually, by reducing revs to idle. At the dock, I can turn the steering to a hardover position and then keep turning the wheel in that same direction at a rate of about 1 rotation every 1-2 minutes. I took the pump out and sent it to a repair location Wagner advised and they seem to be just sitting on it. The time for our planned winter cruise is approaching and I'm concerned about this situation.
My system has Wagner components: B1 pump, helm control valve (A-906?), and N85 cylinder. The autopilot pump is octopus.
I would be very interested to know manufacturer/product number of helm pumps that y'all recommend.
