Has anyone painted there cap rail rather than oiling or varnishing it Has it lasted?

Are your cap rails teak? The previous, previous owner of JdV had 'painted' the teak rub rails (but not the cap rails). I use quotes because it wasn't just paint. Several layers or epoxy followed by some layers of awlgrip. I don't know for sure when he did it but it lasted at least ten years. When we bought the boat it was just starting to come loose and peel off in chunks. We laboriously ground it back down to teak and now use cetol. I much prefer the look of the natural wood rather than paint but I'll never get ten years of life out of it!
